Best free drawing software for stained glass12/17/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Digital is great for making patterns for orders to scale with grid lines then printing it out split over many sheets, Though some of my freehand work is all done on whatever paper I have handy with whatever utiensel I find nearby to make marks on the paper.American Bevel - Stained glass, bevel glass clusters, stained glass software, bevel glassįeatures | Reviews | Downloads | Tutorials |Īmerican Bevel's Designer software allows you to create professional beveled glass designs easily and quickly on your PC. I use both digital and traditional patterning depending on what I'm doing and what the goal is. Sometimes you can't beat the speed of doodling out an idea on paper and working from it directly. If none of this seems like something you want to take on there's always good ol fashioned paper and whatever. If you want something simple to jump into with no crazy learning curve, Photopea would likely be the best option as there's nothing to install, no setup, just open and go. Out of this list I personally would use Inkscape or Krita depending on your abilities. ![]() Works on everything you can get a browser on.Īll of these are 100% free to use, some are open source (support open source whenever you can!) with varying degrees of documentation on how to use them. This is an entirely browser based photo editor that's on par with Photoshop/GIMP. It also has vector capabilities but it's absolutely not the focus of it. If you have a drawing tablet then this would be the best option. It's more of a "drawing/painting" program aimed at people doing digital works from nothing. If you are used to photoshop you will have problems using this as it's a bit special on layout. GIMP, a very complex image editor that does have some SVG support but is otherwise a raster based program that's somewhat similar to photoshop in abilities. Most plotting programs for vinyl/craft/laser cutters and such will also take SVG formats to follow, allowing you to make use of those too. Vector allows you to rescale without losing quality so you can make something at any size and then change it without parts getting lost or muddy. Inkscape is a free vector based tool that I highly recommend as vector patterns are far superior to raster patterns. ![]()
